This podcast was possibly one of the coolest “What Ifs” I’ve ever listened to. I never realized that there was a speech written for the Apollo 11 should it have failed. In my previous post, I talked about the inability to produce a physical image from the radio. It completely depends on the speaker to produce creative thoughts in the listener’s head. In this example, there were sounds of ambience and sound cues of the space ship landing. Even the interference from the radio they’re talking on is taken into account. It’s not like they’re just speaking into a crystal clear microphone where we can here both voices clearly. The reactions/emotions provided by them are also true and unique. Us as the listeners, can see the escalation from a prepared landing, to immediate concern and worry as they know they are going to die from no oxygen in two hours.
They simulate the realism behind the Apollo 11 landing should it have gone horribly awry and this podcast was truly a work of art. If you’d like to listen to it, the link can be found here.
